spec clutch t 56 problem

Okay guys I was installing my trans last night and went to push the pedal down and had a very hard pedal..... So after tearing into a few things I noticed that the clutch fork does not seem to engage the throw out bearing very well and will slip off with ease and become wedged on the input shaft.... Any one ever seen this? I am baffled... The spec throw out bearing has a square type cut to it where as the stock clutch throw out bearing is just round..... Any input would be great. thanks

Did you disengage the clip on the fork? then clip it on and push it so it clicks over that bolt? Only way to do it, I had the same problem, i put it on but didn't do th ething with the clip and it slipped off. Once you clip it in it doesn't move.

NVetro is correct,

The Clutch Fork will "play" with the throw-out bearing until you fully push "clip" it in towards the Throw-out Bearing. After that, the SPEC will take it from their. = )

I had the exact same problem. Couldn't figure out what was happening. I would put it all together...push the clutch, and the first time it felt ok, then it got really really hard to the point I couldn't really push the clutch anymore. I even ended up dropping the tranny again trying to see the throwout bearing and what was all going on. Turns out I just wasn't getting the fork completely engaged onto the throwout bearing. I used a long screwdriver and pried clutch fork towards the bearing. All of a sudden when I thought I was about to break the screwdriver, the fork popped onto the bearing. After that it worked perfectly!
Good luck!

Thanks guys I am still a little confused... I tried taping it with a hammer and also used a longer pribar and thought I was going to break the case.... I even pulled the trans back to look... The pedal got so hard I bent the clutch master cylinder rod... Is there a easy way to engage the fork or do I have to pry with all my might? I am just afraid of breaking the bellhousing... Thanks again guys...

If everything is together correctly the fork should go into place easily....at least mine did.

Does the spec throwout bearing make it harder to engage? It is not round but more octogon.....

slide the tranny back out.. make sure you pull the fork all the way down... and then slide it back up there.. all the while making sure you don't accidently push it up.. it sounds as if its getting stuck between the outside ring of the t/o and the case.. there is enough room for the play to slide up and down but not enough to slide it to the center of the t/o bearing.. there fore giving the feeling of it being free.. but not allowing it to correctly position itsefl on the bearing properly.. make sense? email me at plattners@enterprise.navy.mil if you need more info..
