Spec Clutch Materials

I was considering getting the SPEC stage 3 clutch for my pretty stock 94 Camaro Z28. I plan to do more as money comes as big as heads and cam. Is this clutch over kill for my current semi stock application? My next question what is the differnce between carbon and ceramic materials? I dont have money for a twin disc so this is the next best thing I can find. Also should i get a new flywheel when I get a new clutch or should I get mine resurfaced or do nothing? Thanks for any comments, opinion, or advice.

That clutch is way overkill, I would opt for the Stage 2. I'm going with that clutch and a SPEC aluminum flywheel along with my CM Heads and 230/236 cam, should hold up fine for up to about 400ft. lbs, which I won't be making, yet

unlike 007 i would say get a spec. for what you are going to do you should have no problem with a spec stage 2. I had one in my 96Z and luved it. if you are like me by the time you have money to do anything else to your car it will be time to get a new clutch anyway

Well hope you like changing them out often......because mine last about 3k miles....I broke the first couple of clutches with just headers..making a whooping 285whp....and it was enough to break a 600 hp clutch.....not once but twice.....the springs are the weak point of the clutch because they use the same springs in the LT1 clutches as they put in the 4 cyclinder version clutches......buy one if you really want it

Spec stage 3 no longer comes in a material. Order it right from spec, they will give you the new stage 3 6 puck design, it comes with a mix material. I have it and their billet flywheel. I love it, i had a stage 2 before this, stage 2 is more streetable. Stage 3 takes some getting used to.

I have the old school stage III carbon and it works fine.. takes a lot of getting used to though.. there is a very definate engagement point. I hear the new version is much more streetable too and doesn't have the problems the old one was prone to.

Yes, some people had problems with the old ones but a lot did not. IMO this clutch has been awesome, no problems and it engages hard with zero slipping under any condition. Regardless SPEC has awesome customer service, quite possibly better than mcleod.. and with the new design you can't go wrong.

Isn't the Stage 4 a really tough clutch to deal with? I don't mind a bitchy clutch to deal with, I just don't want to replace it... making around 370rwhp.

I belive stage 4 and 5 are unsprung iron discs. I COULD be wrong, I definitly know stage 5 is. But regardless, stage 4 will be to much. Cus the stage 3 only becomes streetable after its broken in, the first 500 miles are ROUGH, and I mean ROUGH, lol.

yea..

the guy with the problems with this clutch... you have to break it in lol.. that takes atleast 500 miles, and you should ride the clutch at all during this period.. you probably abused the crap out of it immediately..

I had a stage 3 till springs came out so I SPEC send me the stage 4 version.....its not any worse than the 3 on the street and no spring problems to deal with.
