Sparying Oil, NEED HELP!!!

Last night I got a mile or so away from my house and started smelling burning oil. I turned around and went back home to find my dipstick slightly out of the tube and oil had been sprayed all over the passenger side of the motor, the bottom of the hood, etc. I know the dipstick was in place becasue I hadn't touched it for a few weeks and the car had been driven a few times prior to this happening w/ no problems. What is wrong? I haven't had much time to look at the car yet and I am thinking something is making there be way too much pressure in the crankcase to cause the dipstick to pop out like it did. Has this happened to anyone before? Any help would be great.

Check your PCV valve. It should rattle.Might as well replace it.Its inexpensive. That or your rings are gone.

If the PVC system is fine, try this. At idle, remove the oil fill cap. If you have oil vapor puffing out at idle, chances are you have cracked rings lands.

Thanks for all the advice, hopefully I'll have some time this week to look the car over and figure out what's going on.
