Spark Plugs Gap on a 383

I am running 11.9:1 scr
8.1:1 dcr

It's a 383... umm? big LE3 cam. LE3 heads and intake.

Not sure what's relevant for this answer thats why i'm stating that crap.

What kind of plugs should I run and what gap?

My car is sputtering and won't even turn on right now. So I want to give it a whirl and swap out plugs.

Mines 11-1, i run NGK TR6's, you need a colder plug when your adding that much hp. No problems here, if you go colder than that its gonna cost you some $$.

Gap a set of regular AC plugs in the stock heat range,(no exotic metal) at .035 and see if it helps. It won't hurt anything else.

Ya had it tuned?

Yea ya had it tuned.

I ran NGK TR6 plugs (one heat range colder than stock) with some ported heads, a HOTcam and stock compression ratio- they did well. I will be using the same type plug again with 11.3:1 compression, better porting on the heads and a pretty healthy hydraulic roller cam. Probably gonna gap these at .040, they were at .050 before.

I am running NGK's 2 heat ranges colder than stock. If I remember right, they are gapped at .035.

What are you running now?

.035" is the best place to start Chris.

How critical is spark gap anyway? Would a .35 vs .65 really make a noticable difference?

If ya are firing a .065 all the time ya won't see a difference.
I suspect most can't fire a .065 more than half the time at RPM's if that much. If this be the case ya will see and feel a difference.
Ya also take the chance of spark backing up into the opti and ruining it with carbon tracking if all the spark don't jump the plug.Gotta go somewhere.
.050+ plug gap was put in so these cars could pass smog for the US Gov, not state smog, and to sell tune up's. It gives ya a tad better idle and burn at idle and that's all.

I would get some NGK R 5671-A7's and gap em at .035 to .040

I have to agree with starting at .035.
