Re: spark plugs

I'm wonderin the same thing....i got the driverside no problem, front two from up top and bottom two from below. The passenger side on the other hand....looks like I'm taking off the AC compressor and starter to get to them. Does that sound right? Is there an easier way?

Re: spark plugs

honestly, i don't remember how I got the passinger side plugs out with the stock exhaust manifolds on, I have had MAC mid-length headers forever and it makes changing them A LOT easier.

Re: spark plugs

Yeah, headers on on the list of upgrades. With high prices on the 4th gen headers though it may be a soon. I got lt for my 3rd gen for $100 and a custom made y-pipe for $75. lol

Re: spark plugs

I recently changed the plugs, wires and opti on my 94. If you are only doing plugs, the driver's side is pretty easy. you can get the front 3 on the driver's side from the top fairly easily. The back one on the driver's side is easy to get to from the bottom. The passenger side is more difficult. The front plug is the hardest. Remove the belt and alternator, to give your hand some room. There AIR pipe coming off the exhaust manifold is really in the way, so you will have to work around it which is a real pain. The middle two on the passenger side aren't too bad from the top and the back one on the passenger side can be reached from the bottom without removing the y pipe on a single cat car.

Best advice, allow yourself plenty of time and try not to get angry...

If you ever plan on getting headers, I'd do them now and make this whole process much easier... Mac mids are reported to have great plug access...

Good luck.

Re: spark plugs

Well I broke a plug boot on the spark plug side....for some reason they were all VERY tight around the ceremic on the plugs. I went to the local speed parts spot...RamChargers....and bought a set of MSD wires. While I was there asked the guy about changing the plugs, and turns out he had plenty of experience with LT1's.
He told me to take the passenger side wheel off and there is a flap that you can move and use HUGE extensions and get to all the plugs without removing anything. I'll be trying this on Sunday and getting back to the thread.

Re: spark plugs

I got the drivers side plugs out from the bottom, and all of the passenger side ones from the top. I just took the alternator off. The rear plug on the passenger side was a pain. I have small arms and had a hard time... wait a minute.. the whole passenger side was a hard time. lol

Re: spark plugs

The easiest way for me when I had manifolds was to get them from the bottom and remove the Y pipe, like that it wasnt too bad! actually had more of a hard time passing the wires properly lol,

Now with my Mac headers I can get them all from the top.

Re: spark plugs

With stock manifolds, you should be able to get all of the plugs on the passenger side by only removing the alternator and the starter. At least with a single cat car. Thats how I did it way back when.

To do wires on the passenger side, its easier when you unbolt the power steering pump from the accesory bracket so you are able to move it around a bit. Everything else is kinda self explainatory but time consuming.
