Spark plug gap putting less stress on ignition system?
Spark plug gap putting less stress on ignition system?
Ok im about to change my plug(tr55) and i already know that the stock gap is .050" .
But...i ve read a couple of time that you can put a smaller gap on the plug to release some "stress" form the ignition system
First is it true?
And if its true can i know why?
What should be the good gap?
And finally does it give the same amount of ignition?
Thank you

Re: Spark plug gap putting less stress on ignition system?
No need to reduce the gap for a relatively stock engine. This realy only comes to play with high horsepower motors that tend to blow out the spark with the stock gap; usually you narrow the gap to .035" and run an ignition box to boost the spark. I put over 108K miles on my first opti, with 70K of those with an ignition box with no failure. I only replaced the opti because I built a new motor.
