CreatiVe2:
It's not necessary. As long as the piston is at TDC and the valves are closed they can be changed without difficulty. On the right stroke, 1+6, 8+5, 4+7 and 3+2 are "paired". The "small engine" screw type valve spring compressors are small enough to work on all single springs including 7+8 under the cowl. ISTR either Crower or Crane make a tool (~$70 ?) that's a small plate that bolts on to the rocker studs that compresses any kind of springs and has cutouts for the locks. It's a plain piece and some people have made their own. Good Luck.

I couldn't get the air hose on my holes in most of the cylinders unless I dropped my headers which is a giant pita. I used the crane tool and similar ones that I made a couple times with the pistons up - that work best.
