Sound like a starter problem?

95 Vette - Just clicks. I replaced the battery yesterday with mine. The battery out of the Vette was completely dead. Put the new one in and it just clicks still. It sounds like the starter engages just doesn't turn over. Sometimes it will start. Time for an LT4 starter?

If the starter is bad, then it probably wouldn't make any noise as it should not even turn. My guess is that it is probably the alternator. You won't know for sure until you get the charging system checked out. You could do some easy checks before taking it in. Check out all of the spark plug wires, including the coil and check the serpentine belt.

Have the same problem in my 91 Maro, replaced 2 starters from o'reily, second one was under warranty, believe the problem comes from the starter getting all the engine heat.

I think i've seena few people posting about a heat shield for the starter fixing the problem, im not sure how vettes are setup but believe i would be the same thing, hope this helps.

Sounds like a bad soelonoid on the starter to me.......... time for an LT4. If you have a fully charged battery and it is still clicking, its your soelonoid.

If you have swapped in a good, hot battery in it and it clicks, how can the problem be the alternator?

Make sure the cable to the starter is firmly attached at both ends. You can try shorting across the purple wire's terminal to the battery terminal (or use a remote starter switch) and see if it still only clicks. If so, it's likely the starter. You could always pull it out and have it tested.

for some reason to me, it still sounds like a connection to the battery problem. You checked all the ends and made sure there was no corrosion?

I actually had a problem the other day with my battery cable not being tight enough. When i would turn the key it would click once then all guages and lights would not work. Nothing else would happen until i went out and pushed the cable closer to the battery. It would do the same thing over and over until I finally found a wrench to tighten it down. But if everything is staying on the whole time, his battery has to be tight, right?

My Dad already brought a new starter home. I'll put it in today and see what happens.
