Heard the best sounding exhaust ever.. A 1997 with no cats and a loudmouth…. Now I have my stock exhaust but I want it louder so I was thinking of removing my cats… Anyone have any pictures or helpful advice in gutting the dual cat setup? How hard is it to do? How long should it take? Any tips at all would be great…


Also, I know it will trigger a ses light… Can I drive with it on until I get my o2 sensors or will my mileage go down and the car run like crap..

Dont waste your time gutting them.It can actually hurt perfomance.You want it to sound good?Get some Long tubes,they make beautiful music.

 

I'd imagine it's a pretty big pain to gut the cats on a dual cat setup. You will have to drop the entire y-pipe and then hammer the inside of the cats to remove the honeycomb stuff. I don't think it's really worth it, you won't pick up much horsepower. I'd wait until you get headers. As for having an SES due to removing the cats, you're car will run fine.

 

you can gut them by unbolting the intermediate pipe and taking a long screwdriver and a hammer and busting the honeycomb inside up real good then start the car and rev it once and it will blow stuff all over everywhere. then you have to bang on the outside of the cats and take the screwdriver and bust other pieces that may be left and start it again. then we took a shopvac and a piece of hose about 1.5 inches and stuck it up in the cats and vacuumed it out the best we could. about 30000mi on his car and not a problem yet.

 

So I will loose performance
