sorry if this is a dumb question...
what the hell is an air foil?!?! why do people use it? what does it increase, how much is it??
also where can you get them, and where do you install them?? some good info would be sweet!

Re: sorry if this is a dumb question...
well kurt,i believe an air foil is what goes in your throttle body,to help the air going in to spit evenly thru the throtle body, they are only 15 bucks i think, there was a guy on e-bay where i got mine, what he does is and if your interested i can give you an e-mail address, but what he does is bores out your stock throttle body, cleans it up with a walnut tumbler, then polishes it,if you want he'll put the airfoil in,i think it was 200 or 250,maybe less that was a year ago,and he uses a bearing for the butterfly, and the tolerances around the butterfly are about .0012 to .002
clearance / per side, with a cai you should feel some noticable performance,i had a cai and when i put it in i felt a difference but at highway speeds, i didnt notice much around town!! i hope i helped you.

Re: sorry if this is a dumb question...
the airfoil goes in the front of your throttle body and it help "guide" the air into the throttle blades and smooths out the turbulance. if you take your inlet elbow off you will see a big hole between your throttle blades, the airfoir pretty much fills that in. they are about $50 and you can get them through www.thunderracing.com or i believe you can get them through summit or jegs also. if you plan on getting one, get a TPIS brand, they have lots of R & D into theirs.
Re: sorry if this is a dumb question...
You can get them from Ebay. They go on the stock throttle body to make the air flow better.
Here is a pic of one

Here is an after market throttle body, notice it already has the foil built in?

They are like $20, you wont have a noticeable gain, and ir's probably not worth it. I have one. Also do a seach, this question comes up alot.

Re: sorry if this is a dumb question...
The air foil helps flow the air into the intake smoother. It is good if you have a stock elbow and I'd recommend getting one anyways. Some modified elbows are split so you won't need it.
Re: sorry if this is a dumb question...
I had one on the car for a while. I had to take it off when I did heads/cam because the airfoil actually blocked the IAC valve and the motor used to idle really low and die at times until I removed the airfoil.
I didn't notice much gain with the airfoil other than a little better throttle response.

Re: sorry if this is a dumb question...
Some people claim it doesn't do anything for your car, but I really felt the increase in power. My car was misfiring with a cut wire, and I still felt the increase it gave me. My acceleration was quicker and I felt the car respond faster.

The gains are negligible to say the least, but every little bit helps. I threw one on the g/f Camaro, and noticed zero difference. It was free, so what the hell?
