Something electrical...
Something electrical...
My check guages light is on, kinda blinking, and as it blinks, lights blink, and the engine seems to kind of studder (only a very slight "blink" or pulse, nothing huge. The only guage that is abnormal is the amp guage, which is very slightly below the red. Every once in awhile my Air Bag light comes on. Whats up? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
PS The only known problem with my car right now is a broken header bolt which is being fixxed this week. I don't see any way that this could have an impact on my electrical system though :-/

Re: Something electrical...
It sounds as though you are suffering a brown out. That is, the output of the alternator is not sufficient to run the electrical items. A defective battery can also cause the problem. Like wise a bad ground or positive connection could give you the same symptom. What I suggest is you have the battery tested under load after they charge it. Once you know the battery is good or you replace it, check all the wiring from the battery to the positive cluster to the grounds at the frame and the engine. Don't just check to see they are tight. Take them loose and clean both the connectors and the points of contact as well. Replace them if they are broke or fraid.
Now with the engine running, check the output of the alternator by measuring across the battery posts first. This voltage while the engine is running should be around 14 volts. If it's lower by more than a volt, replace it. Now set your meter to AC and measure from the negative terminal of the battery to the output of the alternator. If you read more than 0.03VAC the diodes are bad and the alternator needs replacing.
Hope that helps
