Something is draining my new battery
Something is draining my new battery
Hey guys, I just got a new battery a few days ago, when I went to start the car it was dead, my multi meter was reading 0 volts. I charged it and it started and ran fine. What is the best way to check for a drain on the battery when the key is off, I checked all the accessory lights but none were on.
Also, I've never experienced cam surge in a car before, but I think it may be cam surge, when cruising, foot off the gas it kind of bucks ever so slightly, but when I get back on the gas it stops. Its kind of weird because it will buck to the lope of cam, you can kind of hear it in the exhaust. Is this cam surge and how do you stop it?
One more thing, I've been having problems with my Bosch o2s, on cold startup the car would run like crap in open loop, i woudl watch the o2 sensors and they would not move, stayed around .300-.470, the car would try to die, the knock retard was going crazy, but as soon as the o2s warmed up and it went into closed loop the car ran fine. So I replaced them with some new AC Delco o2s, when I started it, it didn't knock as bad, and the o2s mv would go to .800-.900 when I would rev it in open loop, but at idle they wouldn't move .400-.470mv. There was still a bit of knock retard and the engine went to die a bit then DTC 33-High Map Voltage set, and it went into closed loop and ran perfectly. The o2s were going up and down the mv range and it was running great. Is this something in the tune that when the car is in open loop it doesn't want to run? I need to borrow a laptop again so i can get another datalog. All help is appreciated

Re: Something is draining my new battery
Use the multimeter (ammeter function) and hook it between the battery 12V+ and the main cable to measure current. Ideally you should have 0 amp draw car off all doors closed etc.
I had my battery going dead in two days so I did this and there was 1 amp of current being drawn in shut down state.
I traced it down by pulling fuses and discovered the light in the trunk was on all the time. This was due to a new alarm install. All fixed now.
The multimeter will show any current draws.
