Question Something Broke !

My brother-n-law has a 94 Z28 all stock. The other day the water pump stopped working. He drove till the car stalled. He said the gauge never went into the red. He let the car cool down and he tried to start. I't started back but ran very ruff and stalled back out. The next day he changed the waterpump. When he went to start it, it would just spin over and not fire. He kept doing that until it tried to start, then a big pop, and smoke came from the front of the engine. Now the engine won't spin over. I'm thinking bent valves due to heat causing a broken timing chain. And the chain fell into the bottom of the cover wedgeing between the cover and the gear causing it not to spin over? What do you guys think?

I have never heard of water doing all of that! But I'll pull the plugs and check.
