someone chewed some wires ! Help !

I jacked my car up to see what was up with one of my brakes squeeking and i was looking around and found two hoses that had been it looks like chewed through by an animal. There up by the gas tank kinda on the back left undercarriage and there black hoses and one has a big white plastic thing attached to the end of it. I was wondering if anyone knew what these were for. I have been getting crappy gas milage if that helps. Ill get some pics up when i get my digi camera back.

If the white thing is mounted on the rear end by the brake hose bracket, it is a vent for the tank. You can just replace the hose.

There are 4 black lines going to the tank. The vent line Rob spoke about. The fuel line coming out of the tank. The fuel return line and the last is the vacuum canister line. If it's one of these other three and it's not leaking, it must be the vacuum line. You can replace it or tape it up. However since you're getting crappy gas mileage, chances are it's the ouput or return line and it is leaking. Since you have critters, you better check the air filter, they love to get in there and make a nest.
