Arrow some tranny cooler questions..

I'm going to install a 2400 stall on my 93 soon and I will be doing a tranny cooler at the same time.
I picked up a new B&M 28,000 GVW tranny cooler locally, but it did not come with anything else other than fittings.
I plan to install the cooler right in front of the radiator just like on Brent's cooler install page.

I see some people installing coolers in-line with the factory cooler. Should I bother doing this?

Also, what kind of hoses should I use and how do I mount this thing?
Thanks!

First you should take it back and get one with all the stuff in the box. It should have the hose, fittings (which you won't need, but I did need to pick one up with two male ends), and the nylon holding pins. I put mine in line, the way I see it you pick up a little more cooling using the factory one as well.

Craig,
the 28,000 model does not come with anything else other than the cooler itself. And yes, the fittings I have are male fittings.
Thanks.

Mine came with the zip ties to mount it with.
I installed mine inline with the factory cooler, but there are different views on this.
Some people will tell you to put it in line and others will say to bypass the factory cooler.
I think the only time you need to worry about it would be if you drive in the winter in really cold conditions running it through both coolers might get the fluid too cold.
The local auto parts store should have high pressure hose to run the cooler lines with.
I have a TCI breakaway TC which is rated at 2400 to 2600, I really like mine for street running.

Thanks for your reply.
Is yours a 28,000?
And I will never drive the car in winter, so that isn't an issue.

If you put it in line you'll need a fitting with two male ends, mine didn't come with one like that. I have the 70255 and it came with everything including the hose. I just figured they all did. I just looked at the back of the box, your right. My temp never gets over 150 and I have the smaleest one so you should be real good.

Not the 28,000 model I guess....

Here's a link to summit's website.

"This model does not include installation components and has female 1/2 in. NPT fittings. Can also be used as an engine oil cooler."

OK... inline it is then.
So how do you connect it inline... does the input go through the aftermarket tranny cooler and then through the stock one or vice versa?
And why do you need a fitting with 2 male ends? There are 2 fittings with 1 end each on mine right now.
Thanks.

You will go in line from the line from the tranny to the to the B&M (this is where you need the two male end fitting), the from the B&M to the factory cooler. Right now you have a rubber hose that connects the line from the tranny to the stock cooler and a hard line that comes out of the stock cooler, you'll pull that line connect it with a new rubber line (using the two male fitting) running to the tranny cooler, then a rubber line running from the B&M to the hard line on the stock cooler. Hope I didn't confuse you.

OK, yea, you did confuse me a little bit there.
(then again, it's 3 AM here)
I was thinking of a different sort of 2 male fitting, but I think I know what you're talking about now. So the 2 male fitting will connect two hoses, right? Sort of like this one?

So if the top line (with the rubber hose) connects to the B&M... where does the other B&M end go to? In place of the top line? I know this isn't right because doing it this way, the hard line still remains connected to the bottom of the stock cooler and you mentioned disconnecting that one too....

Yes that's the right fitting. Once you look at it you'll see what I'm talking about. The line coming from the tranny will go into the cooler. Then the second line from the new cooler will go to the stock hard line which is on the bottom of your radiator. Look at the sight you were talking about again, it's the same one I used.

One last question, I promise.
Did the mounting hardware that came with the kit look like anything you may find at a hardware store or was it something specifically designed for the kit?
