Some questions on EGR

I've always got an EGR code, and I bet it's messing up my gas mileage. I've read that it's not ever going to work if I've got rid of my cat, and if it's not I'm just going to get rid of it. I've read it causes the oil leak we all get too from the pipe heating up. I've also read that it can help out your gas mileage a little bit too, but it seems like it's messing my gas milage up more than it it would help if it was fixed. If it's never going to work without a cat I'm going to take it off. So, will it ever work without a cat?

Re: Some questions on EGR

Which code do you have... the one for the solenoid or the one for EGR flow?

The OBD-I cars seldom get the EGR flow code, even with low backpressure exhaust systems, including a deleted cat.

I'm not sure which code I'm getting. The code I get is 32, I'm not sure if it's the flow or solenoid code. If it is the solenoid code, I'll replace the solenoid.

Re: Some questions on EGR

DTC 32 is the code for low flow. Have you checked the EGR valve to make sure its working? .....that the pintle and the hole in the manifold aren't carboned up? ....that the corrugated riser tube is in good shape?

Don't put too much faith into that one. Extensive testing has been done and the overwhealming consensus is that the intake leak is either from too little sealant used or sloppily applied or failing to retorque the manifold bolts after being heat cycled a few times.
