Some oil pan gasket questions??????

Tore my oil pan gasket some ??????????
Okay taking my timing chain gasket off, i tore the oil pan gasket.
Well i rtv silconed it to heck and back.????

Got the top end of my motor started thinking...........If i put all this time and money into my motor and it leaks i'm gonna be pissed.

So i went and bought a new oil pan gasket. i figured they was like the old style motors and just buy the front oil pan seal. But they told me i had to buy the whole oil pan gasket.

Today i pulled the oil pan off and took the old gasket off. the New gasket is blue rubber sort of like a silcone gasket. The one i took off is metal.

So the problem is i can't get to the back of my oil pan to put the gasket in the little dip. any ideas. Or should i have just left the rtv.Thats what i wish i had did now but it's to late.

Oh yeah i used to Love LT1's but i have had so much trouble with breakin stuff when taking the motor apart not knowing how to do stuff i'm just about sick of working on it cause it seems like everytime i work on it i break somethin new. i know some of u guys feel the same way.

When u put tons and to ns of money into somethin and can't get it back together. It pisses me off.

Sorry for the long post i just had to get it out of my system.

Re: Some oil pan gasket questions??????

The stock LT1 oil pan gasket is silicone and is orange...not sure what the metal "gasket is that you found. Felpro gaskets are blue silicone and are a very nice piece.

Re: Some oil pan gasket questions??????

The easiest way to do it is to support the motor with a floor jack, I set it at the tranny, and take out the two bolts that hold the motor mounts. Jack the motor as high as you can and the oil pan will drop far enough for you to put on the new gasket.
