some more longtube install prep questions

I dont know what o2 extendors exactly are but it sounds like something to increase teh wire length so they can reach back there but my friend wants to splice some wire in and save some money which makes sense is theer any reason I couldnt just do that? Also how hard is it to change gaskets once the headers are installed?

Believe it or not, some people do slice wires. My LTs came with O2 extentions. I used Fel-Pro 1406 header gaskets. Nice feature about them is they have hooks for the end bolts, this will hold the headers in place , then you can drop the fel-pro gasket in place and and then thread in the rest of the bolts.

I spliced my own, did not even solder em just crimped em.
No problems yet.
I spent some time on em though and made sure it was done as well as could be done, wrapped all the connections in elecrical tape and then put convoluted tubing around it all.
You can try it, if it don,t work out for ya you can always buy some extensions.

You can splice wires into the o2 wires, but DO NOT splice into the wires directly behind the 02 sensor. It has to be in the wires in front (more towards the engine) of the connector for the 02 sensor. That is why most people just use the extensions. they have a very nice connector boot on both sides so that you do not have to worry about a wire coming loose or anything.

So basically splice the wire closer to the engine? Also how hard would it be to change the gaskets if I use the ones that come with the headers then change them out a week or two down the road? Oh also what about header wrap, would save the coating on the install and maybe down the road too and would keep even more heat out of the engine compartement, looks are the only downside...
