some header questions

i just put a cc306 in my pretty much stock 94 z and i wanted to put headers on soon but my budget is pretty tight so i wanted to know what i should do for the biggest bang for the buck. i want ceramic long tubes but i wanted to know if shorties do anything and is it really absolutely neccessary to have them ceramic coated or can i get away with it if i make sure all wy wires are tucked away

Re: some header questions

LT's would give you the most benifit. Ceramic coating will keep engine bay temps down and give a little performance benifit due to the hot exhaust gasses keeping most of their velocity, and not cooling off. The coating will also protect your headders.

Please don't waste your time on shorties. If you want some, there are tons of people on the board getting rid of their shorties, for some LT's.

My suggestion, Jet Hot LT's. They are $525 shipped. Also get a hooker y pipe to hook everything up.

Re: some header questions

You could go with Pacesetter long tubes. From Summit they are $400 coated. Personally, that's what I would do if I just wanted some nice headers without dropping too much green.

Re: some header questions

Don't listen to all the Long tube hype. 94-95 shorties (which are actually more midlengths) make good power. Go to www.advancedinduction.com and Phil had two cars crank out over 400rwhp with shorties. Hell even one of them was 1 5/8" primaries, so don't listen to the long tube BS. Although most of the better shorties are expensive, most cost more than long tubes. I would suggest getting a set of Used coated headers from the for sale section here. I got a set of coated SLP's probably one of the best free flowing shorties used for $300 and they are 700 new coated.

Re: some header questions

Ill jump on the shorties bandwagon, too...LPE stainless 1 3/4" shorties since 1995..emissions legal everywhere, random tech Y with cat...420rwhp...BUT I would definitely send whatever you decide on to Jet Hot or similar company and have the headers coated inside and out...
