Angry Solution so simple yet so hard!! ARGH!

Ok. My gas pedal basically rest on the floor. So I finally take a look at my throttle body and the cable that runs to the gas pedal. Well, it turns out I have about 2 - 2.5 inches of slack I need to get rid of. When I pull the cable, my gas pedal comes up to where it should be (slightly below the brake). There is a little peg that fits into a hole in the TB at the end of the cable.

Argh! If I could only cut this cable, that would be perfect!! But how would I get that peg on the new end?? I'm at a loss and very frustrated. This is so simple, yet I can't figure it out!!

Any advice!? This is a problem because even when you floor my gas pedal, it doesn't open the TB all the way due to slack. (So basically, I can't get WOT) If I can just kill 2 inches, I'd be perfect.

If ANYONE can give advice, it is MUCH appreciated!

Big thanks in advance.

Lightbulb this is stupid but it would work

if you have a welder you could fold the 2 inches on top of each other and just aplly a small tack weld. I know i'm an idiot. lol

I actually thought about soldering two cut ends together, but I dont' think that would hold.

I think you need to further investigate why you have 2.5" of slack. Is it properly hooked up the the TB?

Don't just leave us hangin'!

This isn't a common problem is it? Maybe I should check if I'm really going WOT?

um.....21 bucks, new cable at the part house. I think that would be the best solution and check to make sure nothing else is bent or soemthing. I broke a throttle cable once and it had alot of slack like your talking about. Check the plastic part near the tb that keeps the outer cable snug. may be time for a new one!

Right on the money. The plastic part near the TB that keeps the outer cable snug broke. And I will def replace the cable this week. But I came up with a "fix" for now....and holy ****....

My fix was quite simple and works flawlessly. I took a small bolt/nut and looped the slack around it and tightened it. Very simple fix, works perfectly and doesn't interfere with anything. Guys, I have to say one thing...I just feel like I added a serious mod. I am not kidding.

As stated, I couldn't get WOT (my TB was opening just over half with the pedal floored). It has been like this since I bought it. Well, tonight I took her out for just a bit. TOTALLY DIFFERENT CAR. WHOLY S**T. It drives like it should. I went WOT in 2nd at about 25/30 and she broke completely loose! I couldn't do that before!!! Wow, I actually have to learn how to drive her all over again. No wonder I ran a 15.2 in the 1/4 here in Vegas...damn pedal.

Anyway, I'm so excited. Thanks to all for advice! (and it so nice not to have my pedal resting on the floor...so much more comfortable to)

Next time you're at the hardware store, if you look in the same section where you can find chaines and cable, you'll find these little lead things that you can slide a cable into and crimp closed. Like a butt connector for wire rope, only the most common kind actually has the cables parallel in the connector. It's just more elegant than a wrapped bolt.
