Solid roller set up in a 383

I need some very good advise on what cam to go with.

383
11.4:1 comp
Lt1 ported heads

Flow #s @ .600

.600 in. 281 ex. 186

I am currently running a A hyd. cam

236-246,in.568-ex.590

Centerline of 108 lsa 112

-----in ex
OP 9.5 57
Cl 45.5 5

I want to go with a solid roller for a few more ponies and this is what Comp recomended...BTw the car is a A4 and it made 406rwhp

236-242,in.603-ex.609
.016 lash In.-Ex.

Centerline 110 lsa 114

----in ex
OP 8 59
Cl 48 3

I was thinking that would be a good cam but the LSA should be on a 112. I will spray the car from time to time but I am worried about what it runs N/A. I also thought about calling Cam motin but I can't find there #....

I've been thinking about going solid roller as well.

Would this be a bad thing for a 300 mile a week daily driver?

I like the LSA on the cam you got as it would assist with my nitrous setup.

Let me know what you find out.

The SR cam is very close to your current HR. I don't get it? This would would not be worth making the switch, for sure.

As far as what to run, what is the intake runner volume of your heads and how high do you plan to rev it? What is your exhaust system?

Im running a solid roller cam on my 383 LT1. The duration is 268/268 and .610 lift with 113 Lobe Seperation. The compression ratio is 12.3:1. With only 11.4:1 compression you couldnt have as large a duration cam as I am running, but if your going to go Solid, do it for a good reason!

~280 cfm @.600.... most good ports in that range are ~200 ccs.

For a daily driver, I'd stay below 250* (246-250) @.050. Still drivable and not as hard on the springs... which really take a licking in these kind of builds. 112-114 LSA is ideal and spring oilers are also a great idea, along with alot of vigilance.

Need more info to be specific though.

My pick for a CC grind would be 248/254 lift .614/.621 on a 112 lsa and probably 108 centerline I have seen this cam make well over 500 hp in 383's with afr 210's. Good luck. Also if you go with the solid roller setup and it is a daily driver think about spending the money and going to shaft mounted rockers it will benefit you emensly.

Not sure on the runner volume. I am using a stock PCM so I plan to rev it around 6500-6800. I am runninh HLTs with a 3 in mufflex y and a corsa cat-back with a cut out. I am not running cats. this is a true street car ac,ps,etc. I reason for keeping the SL close to the HC was to achieve the same driveablity but make a 20 or so more HP. I'm all ears so shoot guys.....

Check out www.futralmotorsports.com
Allan builds some of the fastest NA solid roller LS1 setups there are. Infact has one A4 running in the 10's without head work. He has many custom grinds and could have another made for you if his don't fit your needs. Oh his phone number is 225-791-9593
If he is not there leave a message. He is away this weekend for a big North vs. South Shootout. But should be back by tuesday. He built my 383 LT1

Later,
JoMo

kart 90 sorry about the slow reply. Anyway about the advantages of shaft rockers. Biggest advantage is the rocker pivot dimension. On a stud mounted rocker it is around 1.4 on a SB which essentially cannot be changed. on a shaft rocker you can alter this dimension Jesels shaft rocker is around 1.54 what this does is allow for a much lower valvetrain friction. Thus increasing horsepower and also reduces valve stem and guide wear at the same time especially in high lift applications. Another big advantage for street use is they are quiter and require less maintenance. In a solid roller design you obviously have valve lash lets say .032 well on the stud mounted rocker it actually travels up and down the stud each time the valve opens and closes which makes it sound like a sowing machine. A shaft rocker does not have this problem making them a little quiter. There are some other advantages but I don't want to make the post too long. Hope that helps a little.

Edit: There are several articles in magazines out right now on shaft rockers CHP is one of them. Since Jesel finally made an affordable setup for us street guys they are becoming more popular.
