Just dump it right after the cat. That way it's really cheap and you get a nice deep exhaust .

I think the best bang for the buck would be an x-pipe with some bullet mufflers. Check my sig for LT1 exhaust sounds.

Cheapest route. Take off the entire exhaust even the manifolds and take it to a recycling center. You actually end up making money on this setup.

Re: so many exhaust, so little time!

I personally like my flowmasters catback, but I am biased. You could get just the muffler....80 series I think...but I'd advise the entire catback. I can't tell you how many compliments I've gotten on the way my Z sounds.

When I first put it on I was disappointed in how it compared to stock....within an hour of running it....it seemed to come to life. Sounds really good. It got deeper with age. Plus the down turn tips give the car a sleeper V6 kinda look...until they pull up beside it and hear it idle.

Others have argued that the flows is restrictive...I don't believe it. I have run an 8.6 in the 1/8th with only a K&N cold air intake and this catback. No valve covers touched and stock manifolds are still on the car(that will change within 6-12 months I hope).

The Borla I have heard in person, but I think it sounds "just loud" and plus as the others say, just run with a cut out if your looking for that sound.

In the end, if you can, find and listen to each system you are considering. I was comitted to a Borla until I took a ride in a flowmasters Z28. jmho. Good Luck.

Edit: I do have a video clip of my car with sound, but my Nikon only makes quicktime movies and the thing is 151 Megs big!! I will try to get a shorter clip and upload it to my webspace for you to see and listen. Also, be aware that your computer sound system can be bias you also....best to listen in person if you can....

Edit: Ok, finally got the file converted. I encoded it in Divx so you will need the Divx codec to watch and listen. Go to http://www.divx.com and get the free software. It will install the codec to the microsoft media player.

Here is the movie and sound file..

..remember this was taken with a 5.1 mega-pixel camera with a small microphone in the camera for sound.

Ever see the results of the muffler flow test? Look it up then tell me flows aren't restrictive.

8.682@82.95mph

Only K&N intake with Flowmaster Catback. I'm pleased with the results.

Actually, can you point me to a link from that test? I am curious....besides...if it was compared with Borla....was the Borla completely capped?

I have a TSP Rumbler and it sounds GOOD. It is basically a dynomouth with an 18" dynomouth bullet. I get tons of compliments. It fit great, and has a LOW price. Check it out on www.texas-speed.com. You won't be dissapointed.

Re: so many exhaust, so little time!

A search would turn up numerous results, but here are some to consider:

GMMG
Corsa
Borla
B&B
Hooker
Magnaflow
Flowmaster
Edelbrock
True Duals
SLP 2OTL
SLP Loudmouth
SLP Dual/Dual
TPS Rumbler
MAC
Dynomax
Random Tech
Open Headers
Cutout

And a few others

Crossflow mufflers in general are a bad design. If they do what they are intended to they hurt performance, if they work like most do, you might as well only have 1 pipe in and 1 pipe out. Flowmasters are the best muffler for F-body's, infact one of the worse. Cut one open and find out. Then cut open a LM resonator or GMMG chambered. See whats inside...or what isnt. All flowmasters do is cause a bunch of resonance to make a deep rumble, they sound decent, but dont flow well compared to straight thru ones. There are high flow mufflers that sound good. GMMG is one, LM is another.

Exhausts I recommend SLP LM/SLP 2OTL/GMMG/True Duals.

Re: so many exhaust, so little time!

A good list....the SLP "Two on the left" is a good one sounding one too. I had the chance to test drive a 97 SS with that muffler before I found my 96. Sounded as good or better than my flowmaster. I did consider that muffler in the beginning, but decided I didn't want the "two on the left" look. Lots of good choices out there...
