so if you break a bolt off in the head taking off the stock manifolds...
i just broke a stud on the manifolds that goes to the y-pipe. i have a good feeling that they all will snap...
so i'm thinking headers, but if a bolt snaps in the head, how do you get it out? anyone had this happen?

Yea, I have felt the sorrow of he broken header bolt. The only thing that I was able to do was to use a tap and drill it out. I dint have the nessicary tools so I payed someone to do it but it got expensive real quick? There are probably more ways to fix it, I just dont know of them.

When I removed my stock manifolds I broke three bolts at the y-pipe connection. I wasn't real concerned about them though since I wasn't putting it back on but they were a mess. No problems with the old header bolts though, they came out pretty easily and didn't break any. If you were to break one I would think you'd have to pull the head to get to it, especially on the passenger side.

Did any of you bother to use a penetrating oil?
This is a plug for Aero Kroil. When a friend and I did headers on his car.. we sprayed Aero Kroil on every bolt. All header bolts and y-pipe bolts. The oil penetrated down to the threads on the bolts and come out with ease. These bolts were rusted beyond belief as well.
The only thing that did break.. was a y-pipe nut. It was bound to break though. The thing was rusted alllll the way through. Either way.. after we saw how soaked the first bolt was in Aero Kroil.. we knew none of the other bolts were going to break.

Check with a shop that specializes in exhaust work. I believe there are hollow studs available that after grinding the broken stud flush, can be mig welded onto the manifold. [Mig wire feeds up through the stud and welds stud in place.]

Some can be extracted in the car, but it takes some experience, patience, and the right tools.
When I broke one of mine there just wasn't enough clearance and I yanked the heads. It's not all that difficult to remove the heads, plus it allowed me to do some work on them

I was lucky when I installed headers... I had a broken bolt in the head on the passenger side. Luckily the Edelbrock headers used a different bolt hole than the stock manifolds did.
There extra holes on both the front and back of the head covered up by the manifolds.
