oil can be changed under warranty. you just have to retain your receipts for the oil and filter, and be sure to change per the manufacturers change intervals.

any dealer who tells you otherwise is full of $hit.

I dunno about all of you guys, but eventhough changing your own oil is better (IMO), i dont see a savings when doing your own synthetic oil change. I recently did my car and i spent 23 bucks at Wal-Mart on Mobil 1 and a filter. I never remembered spending that much before!!!! I was shocked

The first time I got my oil changed (a few years ago) I had Uncle Ed's do it and it cost me 45 bucks w/ mobil 1 oil and regular delco filter. Since then, I've done it myself and it's like 25 for oil and 3-4 for the filter so well worth the 10 minutes it takes.

Huh??? You dont see a savings when changing synthetic oil on your own...but wal mart you never remembered spending that much before??? So are you saying it is or isn't beneficial? I change mine at wal mart because to buy the oil and filter its like 24 or 25 bucks with tax and stuff...they do it for 27.99.

You guys seem to have had good luck with switching over to synthetic, but I haven't. I just bought the car (owned it 2 weeks) and I thought i would treat it well and go to mobil 1 10w30, and now i have a small leak which seems to be escaping out of the rear main. Nothing incredibly serious, but i do notice a drip every few days, but it's not enough to affect my oil level. Oil pressure is way up there too, so I dunno what I am going to do. Winter is coming up, I might have to take care of that rear main seal while she's in storage. By the way, the previous owner used 10w30 maxlife.

I have 101k on the motor and the last 50k have been Mobil 1. Engine's been bullet proof.

I hear Mobile 1 has a synthetic oil with the seal conditioners in it now....basicaly like the other high milage oils. I'll be switching over to that next.

When you know guys who have disasembled their engines that have run Mobil 1 for 120,000+ miles and you can still see the cross hatching you know it's doing something right.

Most synthetic oil changes I've seen are between 40-60 bucks. Wal-Mart will do it for $30, though I'm not big on the Fram filter they use.

I had the same situation as one of the earlier posters. I bought the Formula with just <50,000 miles in 2001. I went back to the dealship for the first year - due to the fact they had free oil changes for a year. Then I went to another mechanic and he recommended Mobil1. I switched late last year (Sep-Oct) and then started to notice a few drip/drops of oil. Then it was bad - a quarter sized puddle under the engine.

I freaked

I read that you can and then you can't use synthetics that far into the car's life blah blah blah. I went back to the mechanic and he told me that that is bull. So, I went out and got one of those garage mats that you drive onto for rain snow etc etc. It caught the oil as well, when it leaked.

But, my car only leaked oil for 3-4 months. Now that I remember, it was over the winter, too (Aha a clue, sherlock!!) But since February, it has not leaked one drop of oil.

Could it be the Mobil1? I hope so. But my car doesn't leak either way anyway!!
