So I just installed my 1LE A/C delete pulley and now....

So I just installed my 1LE A/C delete pulley and now the belt seems to be loose. Right between the alternator and the 1LE pulley the belt kind of wobbles, when the ignition is off it doesn't seem to be as tight as it once was. When my compressor locked up it turned bright orange because it was so hot. Could the heat that the compressor produced when it locked up cause the belt to stretch out? I also heard that some people have to get a shorter belt when they delete the A/C with the pulley. Does anyone have any ideas or part#s for belts that will work? Thanks.

Washer

I think you have to put a washer on the pulley or something to keep it from wobbling...

When I put a 1LE pulley on my car I reused the same belt. Parts stores show two different belts for the LT1. Your car was probably equipped with the longer of the two from the factory. You might want to try the shorter of the belts. If this doesn't work, you might have a failing tensioner.

Some of the delete pulleys are aftermarket ones that make you use a shorter belt.

When I did the AC delete, and got the delete pulley, I already had an underdrive pulley (currently for sale), + an alternator pulley. That pretty much forced me to get a new belt. It took me forever to find one that fit properly, but I finally got one special ordered through NAPA.

Of coarse then when I put on my ATI super dampner for my supercharger, then I had to get a new sized one all over again.

I got this one from the local GM dealer pn.10115875. I'm just wondering if the heat from the old compressor caused my old belt to stretch out. If that's the case should I just pick up another stock belt and see if it works?

There were two different diameter A/C clutch pullies used on the LT1, so whether or not you can keep your stock belt will depend on which stock clutch pulley you had. Isn't unusual to need a shorter belt.

Is the pulley you installed an OEM GM 1LE unit, or the cheapie they sell on eBay? If its the one from eBay, that might explain the "wobble". You should not have to add any washers to the correct OEM GM part.

The pulley is a OEM GM 1LE unit, it lines up perfectly. It only wobbles because it's too short. I'm just wondering if the heat caused the belt to stretch out. If not what belt part # should I get?

Try an inch shorter belt than stock. See how that works out.

i also kept the stock belt but i did'nt change the alternator pulley due to very low amps.

Why the belt is too long is almost immaterial. Check the tensioner pulley. There are indicator marks and a pointer on the housing. If the indicator is not in the correct range, the belt is too long. If its too long, take it to a parts store and get a smaller one. While you are there, compare the worn belt to the stock size and see if its stretched.

What's "too short"?

Sorry Injuneer, I meant to say that the belt was too long. I'll take the belt to the parts store and figure it out. Thanks for everyones help.

I thought the tensioner pulley was supposed to adjust automatically, thus using the same belt whether the car has A/C or not. I did mine and had no problem with tightness. Maybe the pulley is weak, if that's possible?
