The arrow points to where the bolt was broken off. So that bolt is no longer holding the waterpump on. Its the top of the 3 on that side(out of 6 waterpump bolts holding it on)

I tried and couldnt not get the damn Bolt-out thing to even drill into the bolt. So I said screw it and put the waterpump on without that bolt. I still gotta put the car back together and see if its gonna leak. Anyone think it might actually work?

 

Dunno man, awfully risky with the chance of the waterpump leaking on the opti. But, on the other hand, I Don't know of any suggestions to help you out.

Yea my auto teacher said that some F1 cars use them insted of regular threads becase there stronger (in an alummiunm block) but i will be kinda scary drilling into you block

 

i have used them before and they can be tricky to install. But faced with the chance for over heating your motor, it would be a no brainer. did you drill all the way through the broken bolt and use penatrating oil with an easy out?

 

If you can find a LEFT hand drill bit, it may spin that right out of there..

 

Ditto.....Try to find a left hand drill bit and see what happens. Get some anti-sieze or whatever is used now to loosen up frozen bolts and give that a shot.

I think that Craftsman has a special tool set specifically designed for removing broken off bolts, you may want to look into that.

Think of it like this. Wouldn't you rather be driving around KNOWING you spent some extra time and effort to make everything right as opposed to driving around constantly wondering if you're going to have continual leak issues because you did'nt fix a known problem to begin with?

 

Thats the point of this post. I bought that tool for 40 dollars. After about 40 minutes of drilling, I got about this far "-" And it has to get in about this far "------"
Someone said I need cutting oil, but regular motor oil will work fine. So I was dipping the tip in motor oil, but didnt help any. Guess I need a regular drill bit first, then get it started, then maybe get that drill-out bit in there...

 

You need to get a stronger drill bit to drill the bolt. I think i have used carbide bits but I'm not sure. They don't dull as fast while drilling into a bolt.

 

I would get that out. Even if you have to pay someone to do it. even if it doesn't leak right away, I am almost %100 positive that it will leak in the future. And with the Opti right there....Well...it will be less headaches in the future to get it out now.

 

go to a auto parts store and ask for an easy out!! then if the treads are jacked after that then heli coil, to do a heli coil is easy dont be worried if you screw up you can take it out and do it over!!, just dont drill to far into the block!! put some tape on the bit so you can only go in so far!!!

 

i broke the bolt on the top (pass side) on the water pump housing. i just left it there. it hasnt leaked in 6 months.
