snappier throttle?

snappier throttle?

I would like to know how to mod my Holley 58mm TB to change the ratio between the gas pedal and the throttle blades. What I mean is: how can I mill/reshape the block that the throttle cable wraps around so that I can get more throttle opening with less pedal than now.

I just want the car to feel "snappy". It seems like I really have to hammer it to get it to go fast. I have had Mustangs in the past that had really light throttles and it made them much more fun to drive even though they had alot less HP. I never find myself accidentily chirping the tires or anything. I think the car is pretty quick as it runs 113mph in the quarter, just want it to come alive under foot with less effort.

I have a Holley 58mm throttle body myself and can't imagine why anyone would want it MORE responsive as mine is like feather responsive right now! are you certain you don't have other issues? I just question the need to do this because with mine I just barely push the pedal and it is like 1/2 throttle.

A smaller diameter block will give you more responsiveness but I don't recommend messing with that... I think you have something else going on

I really don't think I have anything else going on. I have owned it 7 years now and I have always felt this way. It has been this way with the stock motor, then with a supercharger, now this new motor, a 48mm TB, 52mm TB, and now a Holley 58mm TB.

I drove a friends cammed '95 Cobra the other night and the throttle just came on as soon as my foot hit the gas. I remember my Mustangs being the same way. I actually prefer a touchy throttle, just wondering how to get one. This car sees 500 miles year so the daily driving end of it is not an issue.

I own a new 1800cc Suzuki cruiser that everyone else complains has a touchy throttle, I think its just right

Well, I'd say if you have access to a mill and a lathe to just copy the throttle drum thats on it but make it a bit smaller, should'nt be too hard.. though I'm not sure what it looks like.. I'm sure you could simplify it in the process.

Your crank stroke is different (longer) then the mustangs and your rotional mass might be what is holding your throttle response down to what it is.
small stoke motors rev faster

If you want that "throw you back in the seat" effect try a different cam. My guess is your cam is on the large side. The 5.0's had great torque due to the long runners of the intake and very restrictive heads (small ports). Porting on those heads yields much greater gains than an lt1.

If you make the throttle block any smaller, you'll get slack in your throttle cable and will need to address that as well. I think it may all be in the tune. A tune can determine how and when a car comes on.

I've done something similar on motorcycles. I've made the part of the throttle that the cable wraps around bigger so it would take a shorter turn to get to WFO.
Without seeing the tb cable linkage I can only speak in generalities. Either move the cable closer to the linkage's pivot point on the tb end or further on the gas pedal end. Changing the tb linkage seems easier.
Third possibility: shorten the rod between gas pedal mount and pivot point.

Ooohhhh, I get it. I was thinking of the wrong end of the cable.
