Smoothed out lifter valley

I just got a used 383 this morning and noticed the entire lifter valley has been totally machined/buffed to be very smooth. Looks likes it makes it easier for oil to drain to the bottem. I never heard of this being done. Are there others who have had this done?

Yeah. Mine And you answered your own question. It is indeed to aid in oil drainback. I also added pipestands to plug up the cam drain holes and get rid of a little windage, but I don't recommend doing that on an true daily driver. Sounds like the person you bought your motor from was trying to build a max effort smallblock. It's a pain to grind and polish on cast iron!
