Smoke coming from tailpipe. Rings or Valveseals?

I just recently had a lean condition while at the track. My fuel pump was on it's way out but did manage to get me home. After the pass at the track, I noticed white smoke coming from the tailpipe.

I pulled a plug and found oil on it. After checking the springs for that cylinder, found that 1 spring on the intake valve and 1 retainer for the exhaust had broken. After pulling the springs, I found that the seals had taken a beating and had to be replaced. After getting everything back together, the car still smoked.

I need to know if I may possibly need to pull the heads to have all the guides and retainers checked or is it possible I wiped out the rings when running lean at the track. How do I troubleshoot this problem?

There is a chance that the valve it self, or the valve guide could be damaged. Which might be causing the smoke.

But white smoke is normally coolant, and blue smoke is oil.

A leak down test or even a compression test will help you figure out if it is worn/bad rings.

Does it smoke all the time? Or just at start up? Or just at WOT?

Thanks for the reply. I guess the smoke is kinda blue. It doesn't smoke immediately after startup but after a couple minutes it does. The longer it runs the more it smokes.

Check the PCV system.

Yea your going to have to, run a compression test, or leak down test on that cylinder.

The pcv system seems ok. Shouldn't I be seeing smoke coming from the valve cover breather if the rings are gone?

If you have real bad rings you will see smoke come out of the dipstick hole for the oil pan while the engine is running due to blowby. Check this, if you see smoke your ****ed.

There doesn't seem to be any smoke coming from the dipstip tube or the breather.

prolly valve seals, but it is wierd for a valve seal to cause your car to emit smoke all the way throught the rpm rang when flooring it, usually it will only do it on downreve or intial punch of throttle.
