Smoke?
Smoke? Or Oil?
Man I noticed the other day after work my car had a differnt smell, it wasnt so strong but had a mild/sweet smell i guess. and today at a stop light smoke comes pouring out the bottom so i pull over at a gas station and look at it with my friend and he's like i think your burning oil, i said i thought it might be antifreeze for some reason, i droped him off and listend the engine now has a sputter kind of , and i guess i ran good drove alright, what do you think it could be? Its not thick like burnt oil it doesnt just hang around in the air like i see at the races it just raises to above my car and disapears but it comes out at a good rate. any ideas

Re: Smoke?
oil pressure sensor tends to leak oil.
check valve covers, intake manifold (rear) with a paper towel that will get you started
if oil drops on the exhaust system it will smoke, but if it's coming out of the exhaust pipes then it will be something else.
where's the smoke coming from exhaust pipes or under the car toward's the middle ??

Re: Smoke?
I have a little gap between my header flange and the exhaust flange. It doesnt over heat it still stays about 190 while driving or so? Also I poped the hood at the gas station, there was no smoke there?

it looks like that i guess, but its underneath my car where the gap is, i guess its a head gasket.

Re: Smoke?
The way you described it, the smoke is coming from under the engine. Sounds like you have a water leak and the most obvious is a hose. check it under pressure with a coolant pressure pump on the radiator. Usually if the head gasket is bad, the leak shows up as smoke out the tail pipe, not from around the engine itself. Pay real close attention to the heater core hoses. Especially the one with the black plastic restrictor on it. Those factory crimps always leak. You can replace the hoses with something from the auto parts store and reuse the restrictor with worm clamps if that's the case.
Re: Smoke?
It IS the head gasket! It is burning water/anti-freeze, that's the smell you smell. It's coming out your pipes because it is BURNING it. Do you follow what poky and I are saying???? I could be wrong but I would HIGHLY doubt it. Not trying to be conceeded <--(spelling?)
Re: Smoke?
I took what poky said the wrong way, sorry man. Yea thats what i was thinkin because it smells a little to weak to be oil and i know what the smells like especially spilling some on hot headers lol. Thanks Im gonna see about how much it would cost to get done, if its outragous im going to do it myself and get the impalla ss gaskets since their thinner and may increase compression a little!
