Small base circle w/ stroker????

I am looking to build a 383 or 396. I bought a cc306 that is not a small base circle. I was wondering if I'm going to have a clearance problem?

I ordered mine direct from Comp and the tech told me that if I tried to put a regular cam in my motor that it would get snapped like a twig.

hmm. For the last three cams I had, I just ordered small base circle so I didn't have to find out. I understand the rod choice makes a huge difference though.

how so?.....I thought all the 306's were on a small circle.

Where would it hit...the shoulder of the head of the bolt?

just curious

A .990 base circle will clear the right stroker rods on a 383. The ones with cap screws not bolts.

I run a small base circle cam in my 396" with Lunati 5.850" rods...the rods are not even close to the cam but I had to grind my block big time to get the rods to clear.

Something else to think about...

I know I have to have the block clearanced. I was thinking of running 6" rods. I'm wondering if the cam is gonna hit. It sounds like a 396 might be too big for this cam.

Thy type of rod, not the length will be the determining factor is the rod clears the cam.

I used to run a 388" with the same rod...everything cleared just fine.
