Is a small base circle cam needed for this 396?
I have been trying to track down this noise for a few weeks now:

The motor is a 396 ci LT1 with 5.850" Eagle H-beam rods, 3.875" stroke and a custom grind cam, with .600/.600 (.375" lobe lift) lift. I've read that Bret uses a .900" base circle cam for all of his cams. If this is the case, is it possible the cam is hitting the rods? I don't *believe* the rods were clearanced for the previous cam (previous cam had .544/.576 lift), and this noise wasn't there before the heads/cam swap. Maybe Bret will chime in.
