For the buck? I'd probably say MAC.

I am with mudge i would say mac's for the price. I honestly would just search the forum for used headers. Headers never wear out. I bought mine for 300 bucks used ceramic coating and they are serving their purpose as good as new ones for half the price. I think all the shorties are the same except i would stay away from hookers, and the real cheap ones like edelbrock, bbk, pacesetter. I would only go for the good ones like mac, AS&M, SLP's and rk sports.

If you're gonna go with shorty's the SLP's are really good. I've never heard any bad reports other than wanting to move up to LT's. Due to experience...I would not advise the Edelbrocks....they just don't have the quality. My Ceramic coated BBK's are just fine. I couldn't justify spending the extra big bucks for something like AS&M's when I'm still a daily driver. MAC's also have a large following and Everyone I know likes them. For the price I'd stick with my BBK's...but If I'd had the extra cash sitting around...I'd honestly probably have gotten MAC's or SLP's.

Good luck!

I agree, go with the MAC’s over the SLP’s. They are about the same price, are better built, and have similar if not if not better performance.

SLPs theoretically should produce more power with the help of the 1 3/4" primaries as opposed to MACs 1 5/8". also SLPs are stainless steel so no worries about massive rust... most are also jet-hot coated as well. unfortunately cant say the same for MACs. but yeah for the money MACs are hard to top. i still think when you compare the 2 with materials used and quality of the product... you really do get what you paid for.

I ran 2 sets of SLPs, they do work, and I made good power with them overall. However I know a guy that likewise made good power on MAC headers, 411HP/370TQ SAE corrected.

So, they can make power, and yes I would save up to get them coated by your coater of choice, not just for the supposed HP gains but for longevity.

The SLPs work out ok, but man I had bad luck with plug wires (#5 primary is evil), and the 1 3/4" is actually large enough that it causes a big problem putting the #3 bolt in. Maybe a stud would work in one or two locations, but the headers are large enough that a full set of header studs would not work with the engine in the car, that would have been awesome, oh well. I ran short Autolite 104 plugs, and #5 wire is about 1/8" or so from the header primary, without undoing the Y and header, I cannot put the boot on the plug in under 15 minutes or so, thats ridiculous I know but its the truth. I'm not huge but my hands aren't small either.

The MACs have awesome clearance, at this point in time working on 2 or 3 cars at a time I figure if I'm missing a couple HP from another header but I saved $200 or so, then crap I really dont care Running a set of $800-$1200 headers for that last little bit of power is not in my interest right now, on any of my cars.

I ran, and still have, 1500º boot protectors on my plug wires, they fit better over the Taylors than the MSDs which have a HUGE boot, too bad the SLPs ate them in a couple months, and that was a coated set to boot.

I would have to agree and say MAC. IMO they have the best plug access of any header.

My SLP's have been great. They have been on the car for 2.5 years with no problems.

Macs are the best value, and have good plug access like mentioned..

Macs, are only 1 5/8 primaries while SLP has a 1 3/4 primary header which will make more power than Mac.. It all depends on your setup.

I personally like RK SPort headers for the best bang for the buck which are a mid length 1 3/4 primary header.
