Slp shorty install

I am considering purchasing the Slp 1 3/4 shorties for my 97 camaro. I was wondering if anyone could tell me any obstacles I would encounter during install. Also if I remove the cats in factory Y-pipe what would I have to do about O2's get the sims modules? Any help greatly appreciated !

When I was installing my MAC's one of the biggest problems was getting the old manifolds off. What we did to help this was when we finished the night off by having the car ready to take the stock ones off for the next day. Over night, we soaked the bolts in WD-40 and they came out a little easier. I highly reccomend having air tools to do the job!

I installed them on my buddies 96 twice. Once when we did a cam install.(i hightly recomend that) was a piece of cake took maybe total of 1 hr from takeing the manifolds off and putting the slps on. Then we had to take them off to do the gaskets and it took about 6 hrs. and the hard part is getting them in and out for us. its not a fun job. Good luck

Installing mine were a breeze. I just dropped the cradle on mine and didn't have any problems....lol, of course at the same time I swapped motors too. All kidding aside tho, you need to soak the bolts to help break them lose and also wear some good gloves so you don't bust your knuckles up too bad. It's going to be a chore.

take a sawzall and cut the stock y-pipe out so that you dont have to unbolt it from the manifolds. worked like a charm for me, got the install done in about 6 hours alone.

Careful. Sounds like he's doing shorties, so he'll need that y-pipe later.

If first time..recomendation I have is to ease the bolts off and make sure you soak the bolts by spraying them with liquid wrench. Liquid wrench the bolts for a couple times the first day before you mess with it. Make sure you use new header bolts. 12 point seemed to work with me since 12 pt wrenches have easier access points to tighten them. Dont cut your y-pipe, just spray the bolts and unbolt it, use NEW y-pipe bolts with locking washers. You dont need extensions for shorties. 02 sims are only for offroad pipe. This is a good time to replace 02's sensors if you havent dont so with original miles but thats totally up to you, search for Jason Cromer for better than dealer prices. Consider felpro gasket for headers. You might need two people since we have limited space to work with. One person can hold the header from up top while your at the bottom holding tha gasket in place and bolt that sucker up. Snug the inside bolts and work your way out. Once snug, then tighten those puppies up really good! Double check after a few heat up cycles, you dont want the bolts to back out.

What I did that really helped me with the frozen bolts was, I got a little hand held torch from Home Depot, cost me about $25 take the torch, lock it in the on position and hold it for about a minute, that worked for me.
