SLP Header help please.
When my SLP DC headers were installed, the mech. decided to cut the EGR tube off and re weld it at a different angle in order to facilitate the connection of the EGR pipe.
Pi$$ed me off since I had just had the headers ceramic coated.
Anyway, I noticed the EGR tube has a crack in the weld.
Question: Is it possible to have it welded in place or should I de install the passenger-side header and have it welded while out of the car?
My guess is the latter, however is it difficult to remove and install the passenger-side header?

I bought my headers used, and the EGR was already blocked off on them so I left it that way. I made a block off plate out of ABS plastic for the back of the intake manifold, and I sealed it with RTV and bolted it in place. The car hasn't thrown a code. I don't think OBDII computers would either (but I'm not sure, might want to double check me) because if you block off the port but don't disable the system, the computer will still think it's working.
Since it's a pretty tight space, my guess is that the header will have to be removed to weld. I would find a way to block it before I took the header off.

Thanks Fast: Since the crack is at the base of the tube, I would be hard pressed to plug it so I guess I will take out the header and have it welded correctly.
Is there any trick to gettings the header out through the top?
I know I have to undue the collector from the bottom. Probably have to remove STB and alternator, etc. to get at this sucker.
Maybe (hope) if I have the coaters do the welding they will coat the weld somehow. Dunno.

Bubba, while it will be very easy for the welder to do the job with the headers out, you still could ask a reliable/experienced welder if it could be done with them on. Maybe you will be pleasantly surprised to learn removal is not required and would save you a lot of work.
Thanks Don: Since the headers are coated, the welder would have to do some grinding at the joint in order to remove any coating which would interfere with the weld.

Their arrogance never ceases to amaze me. They just assume they have approval to do whatever they deem necessary to make something work for them, with total disregard for what the customer wants.

Bubba, I have the SLP 94-95 design headers. The location of the driver side AIR header connector is in the way for a 96-97SS car with the oem SS intake system. I had to screw down the AIR fitting as far as possible and squeeze the AIR rubber hose to get it all to (barely) fit under the intake air plenum. I have always planned to reweld/position the AIR tube if I ever removed the headers from the engine in the future.
