SLP header for 1994 Z

Looking at getting some headers, would the slp be a good choice and what kind of gains could i expect from that and GMMG???? I wrote LS1 speed and they said if i got Long Tubes i would get like 20rwhp from them but i think i want to keep it emissions legal please help i will be ordering soon for spring so any help would rock. also what kind of gains from the slp could i see i have just a bolt on car no internals and none planed for a long time. I have cold air air foil Grantelli mass air Jet stage 2 module 4:10 gears and a bunch of suspension stuff to go on this spring on that what your opinion on Hotchkis springs 1 inch drop??? i want to gain at least 20 hp from exhaust i just want to hit 13.5 or 13 flat would rock so far best is 14.2 a t 99.5 o yeah i just put in 160 thermo a few months ago.

The SLPs suck for plug access, I run Autolite 104s compared to the stock 106/7 setup, and still the header at #5 is sitting on the plug wire. They could have done a better job with the design.

What exactly do you need in your state to retain emissions legality? If you can go with MACs or something like that, you will probably be much happier. Some people just fib about what brand they are and still pass, you can use an SLP or JBA CARB EO# if that is what you need also.

I've got the 94-95 design SLP headers on my car. I think they are pretty decent. They are 409ss, 1.75" dia tubes and have worked well for me for almost 5 years. I think they are a well made from my experience. I still would get them coated for the benefits.

I'd be wild guessing on what performance increase you would see. I've read a wide range of reports on what kind of gains that one should expect.

They are decent, and they are stainless, but I spent some good money on 1500º boots to help keep wires from burning, especially #5 which is very, very bad. Unless you have a friend with small hands, plug changes for me pretty much meant loosening up the headers, mostly because of #5 again. Some of them are of course very easy to get to, some not. You dont do plugs that often so that aspect isn't such a big deal, but they went through my MSD wires pretty quickly

So, having had that experience, I would go with something else but thats JMO. I really wanted something legal, and I wanted a 1 3/4" and I got a good deal on the headers.

I would tend to agree that plug access is not the best on the 94-95 SLP headers. For #5 use the SLP socket for $20 (or have one machined just like it locally like I did).

Plug wire routing and protection on an LT1 is a royal PITA and very time consuming. (here's were we get all the posts suggesting over the valve cover wiring solution).

I have found that the thicker 8.5mm wiring doesn't work so well, especially if the wires are made from a thick, inflexible material. I love MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor wires BUT not for my LT1. I found the expensive Magnecor 8.5mm wires are very plyable and fit the oem looms nicely. I also take the time to route them safely around the headers and use some thermal tape and tie straps generously. I haven't had any problems around my SLP headers.

Iam going to use the stock size plug wires

During the install iam getting a new coil and opti with new plugs and wires iam just going with the oem wires because they will fit in the stock looms and that should help me from burning the plug wires. I just wonder if there is a big difference in sound and Hp numbers between Long tubes and slp. I do plan to lower my ride 1 inch so will that cause problems either way? i just want a good header exhaust set up that will net me a gain of 13.5 or so in the 1/4 mile that is my real goal but i want all stainless and it too sound good so iam kinda asking for a contradiction. thanks
