Question SLP CAI whistle noise

I've currently got an SLP CAI, and I think that it might be the cause of a loud whistling/hissing sound under the hood. I mean, my car sounds more like a supercharged car than any blown LT1 that I've ever heard!! It's louder than the exhaust with my cutout open! Can anything be done to quiet this noise? What about other CAI's - are they quieter? I bought the SLP unit 'cause my car has ASR. AFAIK at the time SLP was the only one that for certain worked with TC-equipped cars. I know differently now.

Could this whistle be cause by anything else (ie TB) - mods in sig?

I hafta admit that this intake noise is bugging me so much that I'm prepared to go back to the stock piece!

Thanks for the input!

-Dave

Re: SLP CAI whistle noise

I have a cheap-o eBay intake on mine, it doesn't hiss or whine, but you can most definately hear it. This is sort of out of context, but my friend with a V6 Mustang but an intake on his and you can hear the whistle/whine from inside the car with the windows up.

It isn't abnormal as far as I know -- Do you have a 1LE Elbow? I know the donkey dong was used to quiet down the sound of the air entering the motor, so that can cause the intake to sound louder too. There isn't really any way around it. The eBay intake doesn't go down as far as all the other ones, but it doesn't whistle/whine on my car.

Nope, it's definitely intake noise.

Nope - stock, with donkey dong in place.

I will check that.

I wouldn't mind (and expect) a little intake noise, but this thing is LOUD! As I said, the whistling sound is louder than the exhaust w/ cutout open.

Thanks for the input!

My slp cai makes the same noise !!! It gets me funny looks from guys who think its supercharged . But other than that it doesnt seem to be any harm. It might be because its metal and has 2 tubes , it has alot of area to amplify that whistling noise.

That's not normal if it's louder than an open cutout. I can hear mine, but not with the cutout uncapped...it's not very noticeable.

Maybe it's the comination of the SLP CAI and the Edelbrock TB - I've heard they're noisy too.

Could be...my TB is stock so I can't say.

Are you POSITIVE that there are NO leaks anywhere?

Re: SLP CAI whistle noise

The minute I put my SLP cold air on.. the sound of the engine sucking AIR was crazy.. I never got a whistle sound out of it.. but.. it is SERIOUSLY loud..

Sounds like a vaccum cleaner is on or somethin.. but hell.. gotta love the performance aspect!

Re: SLP CAI whistle noise

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I'll double check that there's no leaks in the CAI, and then swap in the stock piece. I'll report back with my results.
