Slip tube

I put Mac headers on my car about a year ago, and ever since I had to hear the slip tube leak. I tried putting many things on it to stop it such as JB weld and everything I try burns off within a few days. My question is, did anyone ever just weld the tube on and then just remove the steering shaft while installing them and fish it back thru after the header is installed? I'm really thinking about doing this, but I wanted to get some imput before I do it. If this isn't a good idea, does anyone have a good idea to get it to seal? I thought I read something on here before about this, but I couldn't find it by doing a search. Thank you in advance for any help.

I know guys with Jet-Hot longtubes have had there's welded up. So it can be done. May have to do something with the k-member, also, to get it in.

Thanks for the response, I think I'm gonna do it, I'm so sick of hearing it leak. I want to wait til the spring if I can so I'm not laying on the cold ground again like when I installed them this time last year.
