problems....
problems....
I have a 1995 z28 with 150k miles on it....i know my opti is bad and when i tried to start my car it clicks clicks clicks clicks and my lights go on and off as it clicks...soo could this be an alternator problem??
The 'click-click' noise you're hearing and the lights flashing on 'n off are classic symptoms of not enough (12.0v at the battery) voltage.
The cheapest, most effective way to check would be:
Have a buddy/neighbor jump start you with jumper cables....OR...go pick up a new, fully charged battery.
Then, put a voltmeter's test leads to the positive battery cables of your battery, while its set to DC Volts or DVC. (Borrow one from a buddy...or at Walmart for $15)
If you read 13.0 volts or higher, your alt. is charging and everythings fine and back to normal.
If you read 12.0 volts or less, you HAVE AN ALTERNATOR problem. Replace the alt. or you'll have a dead battery and back at the same point in a couple of hours.
Do BOTH of these checks with the engine running.
Hope that helps....
PS: I won't comment on the opti, as you haven't given enough info to tell how you know its going out or has failed - On what do you base those suspicions?
I truly do not believe the two are related, unless you have a bad ground.
