Slack in steering?
Put the car up on jacks and have a buddy turn the steering wheel back and forth while you're underneath lookin' around. Wiggle the wheels up/down left/right, pull on the steering arm joints. And the worst it could be is a worn steering rack.

could have damaged anypart of the steering but my first guess would be tierods. you can even do it with the car on the ground....grab a wheel and see if you can move it whilethe stering is locked(ignition off)...it shoudn't move hardly at all...but watch where the outer tierod connects to the steering knuckle/spindle and see if it is loose there. I jsut replace the right and left on my car!!!
tierods were like $25 a peice(2 inner and 2 outer, but I only needed outer) and $20 to change them($40 total for 2 of them, but mine needed to be hearted witha torch and all to get them off....I was unable to do it myself, but you might be able to) and $50 for alignment afterwards.
You have headers? Try a rag joint eliminator for your sterring linkage... www.unbalancedengineering.com Mine started having slack about 3 days after I put my headers in and I still need to order this piece, it's supposed to make it go away.
Wow, that's great. That's what I have custom made for my car a year ago!
Jeez, they stole my idea!
That's the best 'mcguyver' stuff you can do to your car. It makes your car response so well, it's unbelievable!! It feels like my friends beemer's steering!
