size/placement of cut-out, does it make a diff??

i was wondering if there are any differences in hp between a 2.5", 3", and open borla? i always see everyone w/ different size cutouts in different places and how do they compare to the borla setup?

dont waste your money on borla.

If i wanted to do a catback, i would do magnaflow with a cutout.

Borla rapes you at $600 for damn exhaust. That money is better spent elsewhere.

i totally agree that borla is a waste of money, i dont like the sound of it open. when i get on it it sounds good but there is a lot of rasp. i'm trying to get rid of it and go for a LM setup, or hooker. good thing i bought the car w/ the borla already on there, cuz id be pissed if i blew $600+ for it.

for the size of the cutout.... go with the size of your exhaust.

3" has less restriction then 2.5 ......

placement, whereever you want, I'd give the pipe about a foot of the header at least though.

size is kindda a no-brainer...go with the size of you exhaust pipe. the poiint of the cutout is "no restriction"...why would you want to put a smaller pipe in there?

a cutout (on a 3" catback) will give you the same gains as a borla...since a borla is just a catback with a built in cutout...and a tailpipe attached to it.

placement really won't affect much except interior noise. putting it up near the Ypipe will cause INSANE interior resonance...putting it before the axle is a moderate amount...and if you were to somehow mount it after the axle...it would be the quietest inside. it is feasible that there is some restriction in the bends over the axle (even mandrel) but it would probably be 0.25 hp

the reason i might be going LM is cuz one of my friends wants to even trade. also i heard that just changing the resonator for some other type of bullet muffler cleans up the sound. my car had something like this in place of the cat and it sounded nice(no rasp) but i wanted it to be louder, so i took it off and put a cut-out. this bullet type muffler/silencer had like 3 or 4 chambers which supressed the sound of the open borla and made it sound like the magnaflow. another reason for the LM is that i like the look of the SLP dual/dual tips over the borla(everyone has em).

i was wondering about the placement because i have a cutout where the cat is and my car feels different when its closed going to the open borla(kinda feels like it has more low end torque). does the extra length of the catback produce significant backpressure over the cutout where the cat is?

all this sounds ridiculous to me/i really dont know what i just typed

the collector length makes a difference, msot have like 1.5' of pipe.
