Single Plane Intake Idea

Why dont people run a 4 barrel TB with a carb style air cleaner on top?

You would lose MAF, but you could always run speed density. I dont really understand why everyone goes through the trouble of expensive elbows and turns this into a 3k dollar job.

Am I missing something?

Hood Space. NO chance of fitting all that under anykind of hood without a 4 inch cowl. Also the engine sits so far back, the filter would prolly hit all your wiper stuff.

HotRodHawk developed a intake bellow to allow you to run a stock style hood that fit over a 4bbl TB. I bought one but decided to go the route of a big bore TB. The bigger 4bbl TB are $500+ too which is something to consider. However, driveability with a progressive linkage setup would be much better (hindsight is 20/20)

Clearance is exactly right. That's also why there really aren't too many people with roots type blowers on LT1's.

Yes, the problem is when you are trying to keep it under the stock hood. The elbow doesn't turn it into a 3k job. Priced a nice 4bbl EFI lately?

When people swap to different intakes the price escalates because of all the associated accessories that are bought to compliment the intake swap.

See... you can get a dropped air cleaner with a total distance of less than 3 inches from the top of the carb/tb...

Maybe there is less area than I think.
