Since there isn't a transmission forum (T56 question)

I recently came across a nice, but higher mileage T56 and the price was right. So it's mine now. The guy said that on occasion, it might be a bit tough to get into first, if the car isn't rolling a few mph. Seems to grab well, and the clutch doesn't slip at all, but it's under stock power right now. I will be expecting it to hold at least 400rwhp and would like to make sure the tranny is up to it, before I go through the swap.

Can this be rebuilt? How much would it cost me?

Dont worry about the 1st gear shifting trouble its par for the course for Borg Warner trannys. The T-56 will be fine even with 400 hp

does it grind a little when trying to get into first? or can you feel the geers slowing down when going into first?
if its either the first gear syncro is worn out or torn up. as long as you can live with it, it is ok. but if the grinding becomes really harsh it has to be rebuilt.

I have a friend who had a bad experience with D&D, so be a little careful. My T56 stood up to >700rwhp.

Like I said before.. go to Hanlon.. I got my rebuild kit for 169.99 and their cost of shipping, not D&D's marked up crazy shipping costs... Hanlon has some very nice people. D&D wouldn't give me the time of day.

Rich: Can you elaborate? I might have to cross the transmission rebuild road in the near future and had only heard good things about D&D.

It's been a while since he told me about. I don't see him often, so all I can do is give you what I remember in general. I don't want to trash somebodys business without knowing the details though. So suffice it to say that he told me: "never deal with them, they screwed me" and leave it at that. It's only one person's experience though, so take it as a caution, not an absolute. I have also heard great things about Bob Hanlon.
