Silicon Hose Help Needed
I bought a set of silicone hoses from Summit and I need some help. Obviously putting on the radiator and throttle body hoses (once I get the proper clamps) is no biggie but what do I do about the heater hoses. Since the existing hoses are swaged on to the aluminum tubing what do I do about that? Can you buy the aluminum part without the hose on it and have a hydraulic hose place swage it on for you? Can you cut off ahead of the swaged part and just use a hose clamp? is that good enought to hold it? Also it is really hard to determine exactly which heater hose is which. The numbers are 63906HT, 63806HT, 63490HT, 63301HT, my factory shop manual doesn't even have a diagram of where they go, much less the location. Thanx in advance.
I know in Birmingham there is a place that will do that. Try a hydraulic place, or Swagelok. Swagelok sells fittings but they also do hoses. Their expensive, but very good. And I wouldn't do the hose clamp thing, there's probably a reason that it's swaged.
There is a place here that will put the hoses on but there isn't enough metal unless they can take the old hose out of the swage and put the new one in. That is why the question about new the new aluminum partr without the hose.

Cut off the "swage" (the part outside of the hose) and the inner part should be barbed so you can use a clamp.

The first 3 hoses are rather self explanatory[radiator inlet, outlet, and bypass hoses]
Note that most of the kit hoses need trimming to length....
Here's the 4 you listed:
63906HT 3/4" heater inlet hose front elbow]: goes from the 'heater water flow control valve' [by the water pump] to the 'water pump lower passenger side inlet fitting'
63806HT 5/8" heater outlet hose front elbow]: goes from the 'heater outlet hose connector' [bleeder pipe] to the 'water pump upper passenger side outlet fitting'
63490HT 5/8" preformed heater hose, front]: goes from the front of the 'upper 5/8" heater line outlet pipe' [hard line] to the 'heater outlet hose connector' [bleeder pipe]
63301HT 3/4" preformed heater hose, rear]: goes from 'heater core inlet' at firewall to the 'lower 3/4" heater line inlet pipe' [hard line]
Also a piece of 5/8" straight hose is for:
5/8" x 1' straight piece [no Goodyear p/n]:... goes from the 'heater core outlet' at the firewall to the 'upper 5/8" heater line outlet pipe' ..
The hose that goes from the 'lower 3/4" front heater line inlet
pipe' to the 'heater water flow control valve' by the water
pump [that the '3/4" elbow' goes into, on the other side of
that valve] is missing from the kit.. I used a piece of 3/4" heater hose cut to 14 1/2" for it..
I also contacted Goodyear about it... I guess it still isn't in the kit?[you got 10 hoses total, not 11?]
The above should help you a lot..

Also as an added thought...
These aren't 'silicone' hoses [they are 'EPDM'], therefore don't need 'special' clamps... [says that on the box, also]
For others info: the heater hoses and heater hard pipes come as a complete assembly, pre swaged..
