Signs of a failing coil or ignition ?

The car starts just fine but when I go to accelerate it almost dies like it's losing electrical power. When I first start my car (87 LT1 TA) their are a few status chime sounds, When i'm driving and it almost dies I hear these sounds again....... any ideas ? ........ Thanks

Well, looks like I jumped the gun. Problem is back but it doesn't kill the dash or make the chime sounds , it just flat out falls on it's face when accelerating. When I hooked up the PCM ground, I just grounded it to the bolt thats on my EGR block off plate which is aluminum and it ran alot smoother for a day and now it's ****ed again! Should I ground it to the block or frame ? It has a new opti, plugs and wires. Does the coil just quit or do they go out over time ?.... Thanks

I would check other grounds and positive cables as well, starting with the ones at the battery and RH shock tower.

So far I only know of 4 grounds on this engine, 1) from the battery to the bolt on coil, 2) from the battery to the chassis, 3) on the starter and 4) on the PCM. Should there be any more ?
