Signs of a bad opti?

I know sometimes you can have bad starting problems and it will seem like the car is missing, but what are other signs of a bad opti? Will the miss be all over the place or near one particular cylinder?

opti

im not sure if this will help but i just replaced my opti, my waterpump went and once it goes all that leaking antifreeze its right onto your $250 distributor and its as good as done. My car used to lag at any point over 4000. it woudl be screaming and just feel like theres a chain holding it back and it was very noticeable and lagged like crazy randomly above 4000.

I had gotten rid of my low rpm stumble/hesitation after I replaced my opti. Low rpm meaning around 2000rpm.

Since the opti is the most expensive item to replace I would try to rule out other things first. You may have stored codes, codes that don't light your SES light. For example DTC 16 Distributor Ignition System ( Low resolution pulse). It could be a coil or ignition module problem. Is it running hot when this happens or is it the same no matter what the engine temp is? There are so many things that can cause that so don't just replace the opti then find out that wasn't the problem.

Actually it doesnt run hot! The car surges, but I just installed a cam and all these problems began afterward. We have checked alot of stuff and still havent figured out the problem. I really dont see how it would be the opti if the car was fine before the cam swap and now its not. I am having some starting issues now, that werent there before. The car feels kinda sluggish and Im getting a miss somewhere. Thats one reason I thought it may be the opti. I havent really spent alot of time checking everything out because I now have a clutch that needs replaced. While the guy has my car to install the new clutch Im gonna have him check everything else too. Thanks guys.

In the case of the cam it could be a tuning issue of which I am not an expert by any means. Good Luck

Have you figured out your problem. My car has a miss also but not all the time. It sputters and starts to pull again. it happens at any rpm.

Actually I havent even been driving the car. I was worried about it until I got the clutch in which is happening this week. The guy thats doing my clutch is gonna take a look at everything else. Along with the miss and everything else it was doing. Im now having some starting problems too. I will let ya know as soon as we get the problem fixed.
