Sigh, I knew this would happen, but not this quickly.

Ok, I replaced the lifters yesterday and set the valve lash on the rockers. Everything was peachy until about 6:00pm today. I start the car and I hear a nasty clacking noise. I come home and adjust the rockers....its not the rockers, I do it with the engine on and if I back them off, they tick, this is clacking. If I give it gas, the clacking only gets louder. These are no COMP R lifters, I forgot the brand, but I got them from O'reilleys Autoparts. Any idea's guys? I can't hear where exactly its coming from other than the passenger side. My exhaust is too loud. My father in law couldn't figure it out either. When I was driving it home with this horrible noise, I could feel whatever it was in the clutch pedal. Someone tell me its not my shortblock

BTW, it doesn't feel like I lost power, it still idles great. I just have no idea what it could be. I was extremely careful on letting debris in the passages and put clean rags in everything. It sounds like metal clacking on metal. It didn't sputter or anything......I need idea's guys....

Oh, oil pressure is very good, 25psi at idle.

How is the oil pressure? Did it do this before you installed the lifters? If you got some autozone specials then dont be surprised if one of them is collapsed already.

I don't have a problem pulling the intake again if a lifter collapsed, hell of a lot better than pulling everything and waiting on a machinist to finish. Didn't do it before the lifters.

Speed Pro stock replacements are like $3/each. Around $48 for the set of 16 if you just want to replace all of them. I had to replace a lifter and just got one of them myself.

Stick with stock GM parts counter lifters. They are good to more RPM than most will ever see. Only reason to go with something else would be super high valve spring pressures or super high RPM (IE > 6800). Stick with the stockers. They cost a little more, but you don't have to buy them twice...

Part # 5234890

http://shbox.com/1/Parts.htm

46 to 47 bucks for all of em. Not worth using anything else..

Another example of the value of Shoebox's pages

Re: Sigh, I knew this would happen, but not this quickly.

you haven't done a cam swap yet, no reason to fret about a shortblock problem Probably something vrong with your lifter/rocker/ maybe springs/valves. Pull the intake off and everything will be clear. Worst case a spun bearing and a piston hitting the valve, but I don't want to start scaring you.
