should their be "play" in the opti rotor

When i put on a new cap nad rotor i noticed that the rotor had about a half inch of play in turnering it. Like it wiggled when i turned it left to right. The same happened when i put the new rotor on.

Could this be a cause of my high rpm miss?

No - it should be nice and tight. Maybe the shaft has worked loose from the drive. Matter fact when I reinstall opti's, I usually pull the cap and rotate the rotor "slightly" until the opti pops in. They're much easier to get in this way.

I think you need to closely examine the parts to determine what is the exact problem. Look for indexing posts broken off, missing fasteners, loose parts etc.
