Should I quit driving it, and what could it be?

Guys now when I drive my car within 2-4 mins of driving it the temp. shoots all way up to 210 degress. It doesnt seem to be going over 210, but honestly ususally when it does I pull off somewhere just in case it does go over it. Should I quit driving it until I figure out the problem? Also, what could it be? Someone mentioned it possibly could be the igniton control module. Oh, one more thing my SES light is on when had it checked said the mass air sensor was messed up. Checked it and a wire came loose on it. Five miles later the light came back on, and went and had it checked again. This time it said the catalytic converter has gone bad because the mass air sensor was messed up. Can this really happen, and exactly what did happen? Thanks for any info.

Probably a good idea to mention the year of your car, tranny type and any major mods. We can guess its a 96 or 97 because the code came back for a bad cat.

210degF is completely normal for stock thermostat and stock fan on/off temps, at least in slow speed and stop-and-go driving. Has it changed recently? Was it lower previously? Is this in traffic or on the freeway? Need a bit more info.

Re: Should I quit driving it, and what could it be?

Sorry, forgot all about giving details, etc. 97 z28, 6 speed, mods:Lingenfelter cold air intake, throttle body, air foil, pulleys, msd 6al igniton box, 4:10 gear, and 175 shot of nitrous. Mine has always ran about 160-180, but if for example I am sitting at a stop light for a long time than it would gradually get up to 210. Couple months ago it got to the point where if I was at a stop light more than it 30 seconds it would shoot straight to 210 and than when I pulled off the car would bog down, but after it starting going it would run fine and the temp. would go back down. Now as soon as I start the car up after I drive it for about a min. it goes straight to 210.Even on the highway it goes straight to 210, and as far as traffic im to afraid to try it. Would hate to be stuck in traffic and have it keep going past 210.
