should i get uncoated LTs?

Uncoated LTs are considerably cheaper, and unless i get uncoated I wont have LTs 'til summer...

I really dont care about the looks, or if tehre is a 2hp diff due to uncoated being a bit hotter...

what should I do??? get them, or keep my stock manifolds for a year more???

If you get them uncoated atleast buy the tape to wrap them. Coating has several purposes though, and is well worth it. They add looks of course, give you a little extra hp, they do a considerable job keeping the heat down in the engine bay(this is a biggie) plus they lengthen the life of the header. You don't want your headers rusting out after 2 yrs do you? Also ask anyone who has burnt or melted pieces of parts in the engine bay if they would ever get uncoated headers again, I doubt they'll say yes. Coated headers are hot enough as it is. I wouldn't bother getting the Y-pipe coated since noone see's it and the added price isn't really worth it unless you have the extra cash. Just have a muffler shop make you one and use the saved extra cash to get the headers coated. Good luck

Another thing, if you don't have the money just wait and do it right. I know I don't have the money for a nitrous kit right now, but I'm not gonna buy the cheapest most basic kit cause I can afford at the moment, it could make things much much worse later. So I'm gonna save a little longer and do it right. If money is scarce don't be blowing it all on mods, I know everyone loves mods but don't make yourself poor just trying to make the car faster. Be patient and what you want will come around. Do a little extra work on the side or something and just put all that earned cash into the car fund. When you get enough to buy what you want, then your set. It gives you that extra motivation to work a lot.

Something once told to me is:

If the mod costs 600 save 1200 so you have money in the bank for other real life problems. Say you do the headers and get in an accident. Your 500 dollar deductable is now covered because you followed the rule. Also do not mod if your paying on the car. Wait till it is paid off...

Keep it simple. If you really want the headers and don't care how they look and don't care if they rust out much sooner, and don't care if you keep burning plug wires, get them uncoated. If you want them to last longer, look better, and create less underhood heat, get them coated.

I originally had shorties. I got them uncoated because I knew in three years I would be getting longtubes. The longtubes I plan on keep in awhile. I got them coated. They still throw a lot of heat. I can't imagine how hot it would get under there if they were uncoated.

Header wrap creates condensation. If you want to keep them around and use your car on the street, get them coated. Header wrap is not recommended for a daily driver.

It depends on where you live. I bought some uncoated Hooker shorties 3 yrs ago and there is no rust anywhere on them or the Y-pipe. I wouldn't pay for the extra money for a stainless steel catback either. I live in Phenix AZ, rust is not a problem.
